‘Til Death Do Us Part
by Jayne Ann Krentz writing as Amanda Quick
Written with her usual professional flair, this historic romantic suspense novel demonstrates the author’s ability to draw the reader into the lives of her characters. The villains—and there is more than one—lead the hero and the heroine on a chase through foggy London. Both the main characters pursue careers outside the norm for the period. They are not members of the ton with the ladies attending balls in search of wealthy husbands, and noblemen spending days and evenings in gentlemen’s clubs. They are people with whom modern readers can identify. The supporting characters are equally interesting.
The plot, while convoluted, is well thought out and frighteningly possible. Solving the mystery is the core of the fast moving action, with the romance a subdued subplot. Foggy nineteenth century London lends to the suspenseful atmosphere and the state of tension that is maintained all the while. This is the sort of book one does not easily put down.
The best part is that the book has a satisfactory conclusion. All the questions are resolved. The villains experience appropriate justice. The hero and the heroine enjoy a happy ever after.
